On May 6, 2025, the New York Times reported that the current administration plans to eliminate the EPA’s EnergyStar program — a move that, if carried out, would mark a major turning point in the history of energy efficiency policy.
We were deeply disappointed by this news. For over 30 years, EnergyStar has been a trusted reference point — helping people make informed product choices, supporting the design of utility and government efficiency programs, and signaling to consumers which products perform best.
At Enervee, we’ve proudly aligned with that mission. For more than a decade, we’ve partnered with utilities, states and provinces, retailers, and manufacturers across North America to help bring energy efficiency into everyday shopping decisions.
Let us be clear:
Enervee’s platform and Enervee Score® will continue to function fully and independently, regardless of the future of EnergyStar.
While EnergyStar has been a helpful source of product performance data, it is not our only one — and hasn’t been for years. Our patented Enervee Score is updated daily, based on a robust and independent dataset that includes detailed product specs, energy use data, market pricing, and consumer-relevant features across tens of thousands of models in more than 20 product categories.
We’ve built this platform to stand on its own — and we’ve already operated through times when EnergyStar data access was limited. That’s why we can confidently say: Enervee is ready to help you continue your work without disruption.
Here’s how we can support you:
-
For utilities and government programs: Use the Enervee Score and our QPL tools to identify high-efficiency products, define rebate eligibility, and build program criteria — all based on real-time, dynamic rankings and performance data.
-
For manufacturers and retailers: Highlight your most efficient products using the Enervee Score to replace lost visibility if the EnergyStar label disappears, and help customers stay confident in the efficiency of their choices.
-
For consumers: Provide trusted, transparent signals of efficiency through our marketplace platforms and partner channels — without relying on discontinued certifications.
We understand that many partners are asking: What now? What replaces EnergyStar for program design?
Our team is here to explore solutions with you — including building customized efficiency criteria, collaborating with trusted sources on standards, and ensuring that your programs retain integrity and effectiveness.
Enervee doesn’t claim to be a one-to-one replacement for EnergyStar — nor do we take this news as an opportunity to promote ourselves. But we do believe our independent platform is uniquely equipped to help maintain continuity and momentum at a time of potential disruption.
We remain hopeful that this decision will be revisited. In the meantime, Enervee is ready to step up and help you navigate what’s next — with the same dedication to efficiency, transparency, and impact that has guided us since day one.
If this moment raises questions or uncertainty for your programs, we’re here — not to sell, but to partner.
