What do Hiking, Kids and Tagalog have in common?

As a thank you for working with Enervee in 2017, we gave our clients a copy of Dotan Saguy’s great photo-essay Venice Beach, the Last Days of a Bohemian Paradise. Enervee is proud to be based in Venice, but Dotan’s photography made us think…

How does Enervee measure-up in terms of diversity? Whilst we probably fall short of embracing the full bohemian persona, we’re still an interesting collection of people, and our diversity contributes to a friendly and inclusive work environment, something that can’t be taken for granted in the tech world.

Map

For starters, 42% of our current team were born outside of the USA – in a total of 12 countries as far flung as Russia and the Philippines. Our CEO himself hails from Germany.

Citizenships held also include China and Switzerland.

Africa is still a blank spot, but several team members have and continue to work there on various clean energy efforts outside of Enervee.

Not surprisingly, with all of that geographic diversity, we’re a veritable Tower of Babel — even if you don’t include Python, JavaScript and all of the other computerese flitting across our keyboards. English, German, Hindi, Hungarian, Russian, Spanish, and Tagalog are spoken with native proficiency, and two-thirds of our team speak a long list of second or more langauages, as well. Who would have thought that we have several Portuguese and a smattering of Cantonese, French, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin, Marathi, Romanian, and Ukrainian speakers in such a compact team?

For those with US roots, just over 40% were born in Enervee’s headquarters state of California, but we’ve also got Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, and Oregon covered.

Chart

On the home front, we’re 1/3 female and 2/3 male, and we have a good mix of ages, skewed towards the 20s and 30s, but with over 18% in their 50s.

Racially, we’re 61% White/Caucasian, with 15% self identifying as Asian/Pacific Islander and 9% each as Black/African American and Hispanic, with the remaining 6% of mixed ethnicity.

We’re basically a college-educated crowd, if you count the 9% who have some college background, but no degree. There’s also a hefty dose of braininess, with 30% holding a graduate degree of some sort.

And now for the kids. The one-third of Enervee employees with kids have produced, on average 2 kids per employee…and counting! We understand if your little one (or your pet, for that matter) needs attention from mommy or daddy…

Between kids, cats and big utility clients, it’s a wonder that everyone finds time for hobbies, but they do! The most common pursuit was some kind of physical activity, with being out in nature and hiking at the top of the list. But we’ve also got passionate SCUBA divers, gym rats, rock climbers, and the list goes on. Conspicuous in its absence is yoga…maybe yoga is more of a lifestyle than a mere hobby?

We’re also a well travelled bunch, who appreciate movies, good books and video games. Some of the more oddball pursuits include “dessert sampling”, “costuming”, ”napping”, and – my personal favorite – “breaking things” (it’s about the journey).

So, we’re not all just 20-something tech hipsters from Silicon Beach who play video games (although we have some of those, too). If you’re motivated by helping people shop smart and save the planet — and want to work with a great group of people — check out enervee.com/business and our job listings. Nearly 60% of our team only came on board recently (in 2016 and 2017), and we plan even more new hires in 2018. We’d love to meet you!
