Enervee Celebrates National Cut Your Energy Costs Day

It’s January 10th. You know what that means? It’s National Cut Your Energy Costs Day! Obviously, one of the Enervee team’s favorite days of the year. This year we’re celebrating with our partner, Arizona Public Service (APS), which is observing the day by highlighting ways their customers can save energy and reduce their energy bills. And there’s a lot of savings to be had. According to APS, “the typical household can save 25% on utility bills with energy efficiency measures, which amounts to over $2,200 annually.”

Enervee is partnered with APS to offer the APS Marketplace, a one stop online shop for over twenty categories of efficient products. The Marketplace supports the APS Cool Rewards program, which offers rebates for smart thermostats and customer bill credits for demand response programs. In the summer of 2020, APS partnered with Enervee, Google, and EnergyHub to make up to one hundred thousand smart thermostats available free of cost to their customers. Thermostats can be ordered on the APS Marketplace, where customers have the option to pre-enroll in energy-saving demand response programs.

According to Kerri Carnes, Manager of Product Development and Strategies at APS, “The main driver was our marketplace provider, a company called Enervee. We instituted demand-response pre-enrollment so customers could have a more seamless experience when they visited the APS Marketplace online; they could automatically enroll at the point of purchase.” Carnes went on to say that “all the rebates and incentives would come off the top, making those thermostats more accessible. As a result, we saw tremendous uptake. In the first year, we sold about forty thousand thermostats through the marketplace at a rate of ninety-seven percent pre-enrollment, so that's tremendously successful.”

All of these smart thermostats and demand response participants add up to a big impact for APS. In the heat of the Arizona summer in 2021, the APS Cool Rewards program shed nearly 80 megawatts of electricity. These savings will continue to grow with program enrollment, and year after year, APS and its customers will reap the benefits of reduced grid demand and fewer greenhouse gas emissions.

Helping consumers buy clean and efficient products is an effective way to scale energy savings and a core strategy of the US Long Term Climate Strategy
